DofE Bronze Expedition – Training and Expedition Dates
Participants are required to be trained in expedition skills and to take part in a practice expedition before completing their qualifying expedition. To provide this opportunity, the school is dependent on the commitment and goodwill of those staff who hold appropriate qualifications to train and supervise expedition groups, and on all other staff to provide cover for classes while staff are out on expeditions. We ask that participants also show commitment to the Award as a whole before they take part in the expeditions by completion of at least one of the other sections by April and by attendance and appropriate attitude at initial training sessions to be held in February/March (see below). In April (after the Easter holidays), participants who have fulfilled these conditions will be organised into expedition groups and will complete further training, the practice and qualifying expeditions.
Dates for the training sessions and expeditions are as follows:
Initial Training sessions:
Wednesday 24th February from 3.30 to 5.00 p.m.
Wednesday 3rd March from 3.30 to 5.00 p.m.
Wednesday 10th March from 3.30 to 5.00 p.m.
(Wednesday 17th March – reserve date if weather prevents one of the earlier sessions taking place.)
Further training sessions:
Wednesday 28th April from 3.30 to 5.00 p.m.
Wednesday 5th May from 3.30 to 5.00 p.m.
Wednesday 19th May from 3.30 to 5.00 p.m.
Training walk & camp:
Friday 7th May at 3.30 p.m. to Saturday 8th May at 12.00 noon.
Practice expedition:
Monday 24th May at 9.00 a.m. to Tuesday 25th May at 3.30 p.m.
Qualifying expedition:
Monday 21st June at 9.00 a.m. to Tuesday 22nd June at 3.30 p.m.
In addition to the above training, all pupils will also undergo first aid training in school in May. Please understand that it is important that participants attend all the training sessions, the training walk/camp and the first aid course in order to participate in the practice and qualifying expeditions.
All training is focussed in developing teamwork around a basic set of skills. No matter what level of skill each individual brings to the award expedition developing a familiarity with other team members is a crucial factor in the success of the expedition.
